QContactManager::contacts crash due to "?malformed?" contact address

I have had several users of my application report the application crashing while loading contacts. All them have in common that the log shows:

"ADR attribute data is corrupted"

Most of the time with some critical messages and eventually a Fatal one. None of them could figure out what is different about their contact addresses that could cause the problem but all them don't have any issue using the "standard" contacts application.

Shouldn't the backend just log the "malformed" address, ignore and continue? Why is fatal? Anyway to work around or explain what could cause the issue so they can avoid?
