Qt Creator doesn't acknowledge a new project in "Recent Projects"

Under the "Develop" tab of the splash screen, recent projects are listed.
If I create a new project, add code, compile & run the project, and exit – that project is not listed under "Open Recent Project" or "File --> Recent Projects" unless I choose "File --> Save All" while the project is open. There are probably other actions which will acknowledge the project as well.
