Android Bad Text Rendering - Galaxy Note 8 (4.2.2)

I'm having text rendering issues and it seems to only happen on my Galaxy Note 8 running Android 4.2.2. Please see attached screenshot. The screenshot is from the the 5.3 systemdialogs example. The same text rendering problems appear in my own app as well, but not all text. I haven't figured out what makes the text render wrong. I have also tried on a Nexus 7 running 4.4, a Galaxy Tab 10.1 running 4.0, and a Galaxy S3 running 4.3, all of which do not seem to exhibit the same problem (the S3 does have a different problem rendering bold text though QTBUG-37460)
