aspectRatio and horizontalAspectRatio properties do nothing. Try changing the values in qmlsurfacegallery spectrogram example in QtDataVisualization and QtGrpahs, and see what happens. That also explains why qmlsurfacegallery height map looks different between those modules, it also uses non-default aspectratio.
