Description
Why it is important
QtWebEngine in Qt6 supports hardware acceleration for video playback only on Windows and macOS. On Linux, video playback works, but only via software rendering. This is not acceptable for various users since they need to use low- or mid-range CPU hardware, where hardware acceleration on GPU is essential for acceptable quality.
Some other users compare QtWebEngine with Chromium which can use hardware acceleration for video playback. They see it as a disadvantage of Qt as QtWebEngine misses this feature.
Use Cases
- Use WebRTC via QtWebEngine to implement conferencing functionality
- Support video streaming platforms
