mt.exe error c101008d when writing manifest to file

Create the default Qbs C++ project from the wizard in QtCreator. Build/run the project, and you will receive the following error:
mt.exe : general error c101008d: Failed to write the updated manifest to the resource of file "C:\...\testplaincppprojectqbsbuild.exe". Access is denied.
